Pros

If you can get together with the right group or build the right team in a store, work can be enjoyable and everyone can make a decent amount of money. However, salaries are not competitive with other companies once you start looking at what else is out there.

Cons

Every district and region is handled different, no matter what the home office actually thinks, the rules at store level are very different from store to store, district to district and region to region. Myself and another employee were both hurt on the job, on camera, completely legitimate but different types of injuries, and both of us were fired, after the two largest sales holidays, we both worked while injuried 70 hours a week and had to go out on FMLA for procedures or surgery and during that time we were both fired. Both of us were high volume sales people but also were people that would give honest answers to our corporate office regarding management. I did not sue for workmans comp injuries, I just accepted my lost wages during the time I was unable to work before I was fired, I do not know if the other employee sued. This company has been sued so many times that it protects the bad and gets rid of the good, I found that out as manager while trying to discharge an employee for multiple employee code violations. The company was so afraid to fire the employee because of being sued, and there is currently an employee that I personally caught stealing, took photos of the evidence and sent them to my manager and district manager and because the company is afraid of retaliation, that employee was never even spoken to about it. The evidence was "put back" and it never happened. They are not at all an equal opportunity employer, if you have any disability or restrictions, DO NOT disclose that before being hired, or you will never get the job. Once you have an injury or restriction, they will do anything necessary to get rid of you. Also, it is a well known fact that can be looked up on the internet, the men are paid better then women, I have a friend that was a part of the class action lawsuit for this, and the starting pay always is very low. Expected standards to be met are very high, and can be met if you put everything into your work, as most managers do, but it would be very hard to be successful as part time. I would normally not voice my opinion about any such issues, I would only just tell people that I am no longer management for the company and I am working for another company, however, in this case I was offered several other equal positions and the pay will vary based on what I can prove I sold. I worked for a VERY large store and I am very proud of my sales standards as well as all of my other standards and President's Club awards and many monthy Assistant Store Manager awards, but sterling is refusing to release my own personal sales standards in any form. Which is actually holding me back from about a $4.00 per hour pay difference from a base offer to the offer if I can prove what I know I sold. This is not right and should not be legal.

Pros

Jewelry Discount, Casual Dress Code Paid fairly well compared to other places

Cons

-Work-life balance is totally non-existent for salaried employees. -Very little training and by very little I mean NONE! - amount of meetings = UNBEARABLE! How can I be expected to get my work completed if my manager and director have me in meetings ALL day! -Some managers were EXTREME micromanagers meaning they would ask you to work on something then come over to your desk/call you in 5-10 minute intervals to ask if it were done! -OnBoarding Is awful. I sat at my desk for an entire week with nothing to do, the person that was supposed to be training me went to another country and no one thought ahead that maybe the new employee would need to be trained by one of the other 30-40 analysts!

Pros

The benefits are good. Medical, dental, vision, 401k, vacation and holiday pay. Debt free company with plenty of ability to relocate.

Cons

The pay is poor compared to the work required and the hours you have to work. Manager's hours are fixed and working 48hr+ a week leaves little or no time for family. I have worked in different positions in several of their brands ( JB Robinson, Jared The Galleria of Jewelry, and Kay's.) I have had different District Managers and Regional VPs and have seen no consistency with any of them. I have seen these managers have affairs and personally known them to have inappropriate contact with their managers and employees. This is common in my experience. I know this has been brought to the highest levels of management, but nothing is done to correct it. All that matters is your sales line today. If your numbers are there, you can get away with murder. The current management tag line is " Perception is reality". Meaning if they believe it or two people say it, it must be true. I hope they also apply that to the law suits against them for gender and race discrimination. They hold up upper management that are females and say " see we can't be discriminatory against women, we have female executives". Yea, sorta like saying " I can't be racist, I have a black friend". I have personally been told Sterling is and has promoted blacks over whites because of law suits and the need to appear non discriminatory. Also , don't believe there is an open door policy, if you complain to the wrong person about the wrong person, they'll find a reason to fire you. Mark Light is held up to the world as the new Messiah and the work Sterling does for St. Jude's . That's like saying Hilter was a great guy because he kissed babies during photo ops. If you need a job apply, just don't drink the Kool-aid.
