Pros

Flexible time off - If you can get around to using vacation time.

Cons

Worst office politics in the workplace I’ve ever encountered. The firm has two goals, appeasing management, and growing top line revenue and does not care for much else. They will treat staff and seniors very poorly - i.e. overworking, and always underpaying compared to market rates, as well as dangling promotions over employees heads to get them to work more (and then not delivering on said promotions). You either sip the Kool-Aid of management or you won’t be treated favorably.

Our employees are our number one asset, so we are glad to hear that you were able to take advantage of our flexible time off benefit. We are very disappointed to hear of your less-than-ideal experience with us. Poor treatment of staff is certainly not tolerated by our leadership and is not a part of our overall culture, and we take feedback regarding this issue very seriously. We will continue to improve our offering of relevant internal training to develop fair and compassionate managers through a culture of collaboration and accountability.

Great overall firm, terrible St. Louis office

Pros

The firm as a whole is growing rapidly and has many great people leading their respective offices and departments. This regional firm could soon establish a nationwide presence, assuming the right strategic acquisitions are made. Regarding the St. Louis office specifically, the only pro (somewhat ironically) is that the partners are highly knowledgeable.

Cons

The entirety of my negative experiences relate solely to the St. Louis office. The main issue with this office is their refusal to conform to firm wide Sikich initiatives. This is reflected in the archaic and horribly inefficient processes. Some examples include: - The firm is not paperless. Yes, they still utilize paper files for every client. - Returns are prepared by hand in addition to in the software - Work budgets are unrealistically low - For some reason, partners prepare returns and staff and seniors review them (even when the staff and seniors are actively looking for prep work). - Churn and burn environment (over hire for busy season, then have layoffs) - Zero work/life balance. - No work schedule flexibility. - No corporate culture. - Not only is corporate citizenship, professional networking and representing the firm for charitable ventures not encouraged, it is actively discouraged! - There was 1 Tax Department meeting during busy season. One. Very little (if any) communication occurs between the partners and the rest of the office. - Employees are not honored or recognized for passing the CPA exam. (No partners attend their new CPA reception ceremony.) - The partners are condescending, belittling and arrogant - The list goes on and on, but the bottom line is that the working conditions in the Sikich St. Louis office are intolerable.

Pros

PTO Travel expense policy Team managers were willing to help and teach

Cons

Everything is billable hour driven. Partner in charge only cares about profits and not employees Created role (associate consultant) to help move people through career development, but actually exists so that they can pay them 60% of what their peers make once they become normal consultants. Health benefits are terrible

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for Sikich. We are sorry to hear that you had a less-than-ideal time working with us, and your feedback gives us valuable insight on how to continue making improvements. As a professional services and consulting firm, our main business is providing quality service to our clients. While there is a high priority on billable work, creating a safe, fair, and balanced work environment and culture is also a top focus for Sikich. We appreciate you letting us know that was not quite the experience you had. We will continue to reevaluate and improve components such as health benefits, career development opportunities and leadership training to stay committed to being a best place to work for all our team members.
