Pros

Free snacks. Get to meet celebrities. 401K plan. Good co-workers on the ground floor.

Cons

Overpaid CEO. Too much work for too little pay. Very difficult to get promoted within the company. Upper management doesn't care for the lower level employees and even people one rung above you on the ladder will kick down so that you can't get up any higher. Company resources aren't allocated responsibly. And you better hope the VP in charge of your network doesn't have a random elevator run-in with the chief content officer, or your entire job duties are going to change overnight on Scott Greenstein's whim. That's not a personal anecdote, it's something that I witnessed happen to countless co-workers over the years across a diversity of networks. Did I mention the CEO is disgustingly overpaid, while the people who actually make the content are severely underpaid?

Pros

It is a paycheck with celebrity sightings.

Cons

Few internal promotions, friends of executives routinely hired and paid well. Managers are not team builders, but instead work in fear. Women are routinely not promoted or given raises, many have left in the past 24 months, thanks to a tight job market and many other media opportunities for motivated, educated, and dedicated workers.

Pros

The culture is really good. Professional. Diversity is stressed a lot. Good pay and benefits.

Cons

Management in the tech world seems toxic. I say “seems” because it depends on who you are and where you come from. Layoffs seem to be hitting legacy people exclusively so if you are new employee or have Mickey Mouse ears (former Disney) you should be good. Unfortunately, I was let go in 2023 but business is business. They have let go of some good people. This leads to a feeling of toxic management. Nobody who was there prior to the regime change feels safe. The hiring of Joe Inzerillo is where it all started. They are trying to focus on the streaming side which is probably their only business strategy moving forward since satellite is really kind of for old people. I don’t see how they are going to lure young people away from Spotify. The products they offer are nowhere close to what Spotify has going on. They also rely too much on talent for old people like Howard Stern. Wish them well but don’t see the plan moving forward. Perhaps the Disney folks will come in, make their mark and move on to another place to “transform”.
