Slow Burn - Toxic

Pros

To be honest I really cant think of any. Decent pay I guess.

Cons

Working at S/XM reminds me of the frog in the boiling water. If you put a frog in a cool pot of water and slowly turn up the temp to boiling it will not jump out and eventually die. This company works with fear. Most employees are so busy covering their jobs, they dont do their jobs. The "Peter Principle" applies. Management constantly reminds you that you are expendable. HR is a sham. They are simply a weapon that other management uses to lull you into a false sense of security that they care. Meanwhile HR is really towing the company line and has no interest whatsoever in the welfare of the employees. Technical employees are expected to work insane hours while they do everything in their power not to compensate you for it. They will force you to deduct lunch time from your pay even when you are on call and rarely get more than 5 minutes to eat your lunch. If you challenge it, they will whip out HR and legal and carefully impose veiled threats to your income or job. Management is nothing short of vile. Just remember anything you want or get should be in writing or it doesnt exist. They run technical staff as lean as humanly possible. To the point if one person is sick, the rest of the staff works 12 hour shifts until that person is back.

Pros

- Fellow disillusioned employees - Nice facilities

Cons

- Tone deaf upper management - Thick red tape - Directionless - A bit of a boys club despite female CEO - Career progression is mainly based around social politicking (ie cronyism) - Dated and unethical business model (see recent NY state lawsuit)

Pros

It's a step up, but will only get you so far. It's best to mingle and network as best as you can, and then use those connections to move on.

Cons

There is an issue at SiriusXM and it's deep misogyny. If you're a woman you'll find your options limited here, and your bosses mainly pandering to your face without doing any of the work to help you move along within the company or navigate the excessive political terrain. There is no cohesive vision for their Product and working for people who don't actually work on your app is a problem, so people working on Sirius XM product are answering to people who don't actually use it or care. Most of their initiatives around diversity and inclusion fall on deaf ears because the people don't actually have to attend the meetings and view it as optional. If you're a person who uses your voice then you'll find yourself in a corner.
