Pros

Incredible place to grow and start your career in construction. It's a company you get access to work on some of the greatest projects around the city, from the WTC, to the 2nd Ave Subway Line, to the 7 Train Extension. Fun people to be around, Pizza Fridays, Morning Donuts, Most Coworkers are super nice! Coworkers are open to helping when you need them, and they know how to kick back, socialize, and have fun when they can. There’s always a lot of interest things going on to keep you excited about the job. With its large size, there’s also a ton of resources for you to have, and the benefits are awesome. It’s a super fun place to work and there’s a lot of fulfillment being able to tell your peers all the things you helped build in the city. You’ll learn a ton, especially if you’re a part of their rotational training program, the pay is pretty decent, and you get to spend lots of time being outdoors in the field, which helps make the day go by faster, and gives you the awesome opportunity to see a ton of super cool things go on.

Cons

It has a very corporate atmosphere, quite bureaucratic, and a fair amount of nepotism. I definitely felt a sense of favoritism when working here. I had coworkers that managers seemed to really like and be incredibly patient and nice with, and then several other coworkers where the managers didn't seem to regard much. One of the managers I reported too kept talking about how his previous assistant was great, but never really encouraged me or gave me the chance to shine. I was 15 mins late once to work and the managers complained without allowing me to say anything, and when another coworker was also late by the same amount of time, she got to slide away with it, no questions asked. Things can also sometimes go unorganized, such as having people moved to new project sites within a week of notice, and on top of not allowing them to have a say in which project they'd like to be in. Sometimes you feel like a number and you can be doing a great job, but because of the lack of transparency, you may not always get recognized for it. It can be hard to build up, especially if you don't end up being one of the favorites. Hours can be also incredibly long with early morning 6AM starts, although I suppose that's the nature of the construction industry. Overall, it’s an incredible place to learn a lot, but I really wish the atmosphere could be more encouraging, equal and fair, better organized, less transparent, and more community-like.
