Pros

For the past year, I can feel the shift in the company’s culture. The past reviews from years ago I don’t think are true now. Really smart coworkers, slow growth since they are making the right hiring decisions. Lots of opportunity for freshers. Office environment is great. It’s a place where collaboration happens naturally.

Cons

Office could get crampy, so must have good relationship with people near you.

Trusted, Supported, and Growing: Why Skillz is a Top Workplace

Pros

Working at Skillz has been a great experience, with a strong focus on trust and autonomy—there's no micromanaging, which makes me feel valued. The company also prioritizes employee well-being with free lunches, a great benefits package, and a workplace team dedicated to creating a positive workplace environment. Skillz invests in ongoing training, including company values and professional development, ensuring continuous growth. Leadership is approachable and genuinely listens during one-on-ones, making me feel heard and supported. Our support is email-only, which ensures clear documentation and resolutions without the need for phone calls. Quarterly reviews provide opportunities to discuss career growth and new focus areas. Overall, Skillz is a supportive company that offers a positive work culture and opportunities for personal and professional development.

Cons

While Skillz offers a great work environment, there are some areas for improvement. Growth opportunities, including career advancement and pay raises, can feel limited. Additionally, while Skillz is expanding, certain systems and processes are still in development, which can sometimes lead to inefficiencies. As the company continues to grow, it will be important to streamline these systems to ensure smoother operations and clearer guidelines for employees.

Believe the bad reviews

Pros

The pay is decent for new hires and many of the people who work here are great people to work with.

Cons

The CEO is insane. Everyone is absolutely terrified of him. He will fire people on a whim. He will threaten lawsuits. He will scream at you. Every time he walks into the room everyone's blood pressure spikes. Senior leadership either quits or is fired after a few months. They don't want to deal with the chaos raining down on them from up high. The churn rate at this company is unbelievably high. The stock market is correctly pricing this company. That's why the stock is down >95% from the IPO.

We're sorry that you did not enjoy your time at Skillz but pleased to see you enjoyed your co-workers, who we agree are some of the best in the gaming industry. Skillz’s company culture is not for everyone as we seek dynamic team players that are not afraid of a challenge or an established system of direct feedback. We have high expectations for our team members that are clearly set during the interview and on-boarding process as well as at employee milestones. We wish you the best of luck in your next role.
