A Culture Struggling with Burnout, Disconnection, and Leadership Challenges

Pros

Positives include opportunities to learn and grow because the pace demands it, access to hotel discounts, and well-being days (days off that do not require using PTO), which are much needed in this environment.

Cons

Burnout is pervasive, driven by excessive workloads and limited resources. Many employees are stretched beyond capacity, which impacts performance and morale. In response to requests for more connection and improved office morale, leadership primarily added more all-staff meetings and mandatory trainings. These efforts, however, do not address the core issue. Leadership demonstrates inconsistency in applying company policies, with some departments granted flexibility that is not extended uniformly across the organization. This uneven enforcement contributes to feelings of inequity, fostering a workplace environment that can feel toxic and disengaged.

Pros

You get to work will some really great people. The team knows how to rally together when things need to get done. Also great opportunities can be given at the right time. For some, work life balance is ok.

Cons

There is a perception that one of the departments seems to control the narrative and path everyone walks down. Any attempt to deviate from that , such as tech stack upgrades, it met with resistance. This forces the teams to work on older less efficient technologies and have to continue to support them long after the original company has stopped supporting. Work Life balance is a struggle at times as poor planning leads to late nights and weekends. Even when others try to call things out ahead of time, dates are still expected to be hit. Also RTO has become a big sticking point with the parent company (Choice Hotels) currently at 4 days in office a week.
