Exciting growth trajectory and an all-star team

Pros

SmarterDx is on an exciting trajectory, growing revenue by 6x this year while continuing to build a robust pipeline of potential customers. The momentum of the business itself creates a motivating environment, but also presents many "good problems" that the business needs to tackle. Supporting this business inflection is a highly capable, diligent, and motivated team. Founder-market fit is strong, as the founders are doctors with significant AI experience. As an employee, I feel like I'm constantly learning alongside my colleagues as more doors open up with business growth.

Cons

Having previously worked in a hybrid environment, I had to adapt to SmarterDx's fully remote posture. While everyone on the team is very nice, there are structural barriers to how close you can feel to your colleagues when everyone is distributed across the country. At times, this can make the company feel less "startup-y" though I'm sure the flexibility that comes with remote working probably works really well for some others.

Pros

The people on my immediate team tried to help each other when they could.

Cons

Nothing ever really moves forward here, and that’s the most draining part. Work just sits in limbo while people pass responsibility around. You end up waiting on approvals that never show up, and somehow the delay becomes your problem. A lot of time gets wasted chasing answers instead of actually doing the job. That constant stop and start messes with your head and ramps up anxiety fast. Simple tasks turn into long mental battles for no real reason. It also becomes pretty clear who gets opportunities and who doesn’t. Hiring and promotions feel based on familiarity, not talent or effort. If you don’t fit a certain mold, your work barely gets noticed and the blame lands on you anyway. Once that sinks in, the place just feels awful. Motivation drops because effort doesn’t lead anywhere, and the benefits don’t help soften the blow. With no real growth and weak perks, it’s honestly better to avoid this place for your mental well being.

Pros

You get extremely good at documenting every detail just to shield yourself from blame.

Cons

- This place was packed with dysfunction that slowly drained any energy you had. - Even the simplest tasks stalled endlessly because no one would make a decision, leaving work frozen while approvals never arrived. - Once deadlines slipped, the tone turned hostile fast, and instead of support, leadership responded with pressure and relentless finger-pointing. - The unspoken mistreatment was obvious in how blame was pushed onto employees for delays caused by hesitation at the top. - After putting in serious effort and seeing it lead nowhere, motivation collapsed quickly. - By the end, showing up felt heavy and pointless, and the entire cycle became exhausting and miserable.
