Pros

I've worked in a large range of good and bad companies. From those experiences, I can say without a doubt, this company is the best I've worked for. The founders really believe in the values of the company and doing what it takes to maintain a great work environment. There is always something new happening to make waking up for work not something to dread but something to look forward to. Everyone I work around is passionate about what they do. It makes the work fun and the rate smartsheet is growing is very exciting. Benefits are good. Your colleagues are smart and great to get along with. Pay is competitive to the industry. The product is solid. Any tool you need to be successful is offered.

Cons

Location can be rough at times with traffic. Although a 401k is offered, at this time 401k matching is not. Would love to see that.

Pros

- Remote work (although the CEO threatens to take this away if we don't "do well"... whatever that means -- not really tied to any indicator or metric)

Cons

- "Global strategy" is to exploit wealthy markets and lower waged workforces: - Lately has been only hiring in the US for sales (probably to exploit the wealthy US customer base) - Lately has been only hiring in India for engineering (probably to exploit their lower waged technical workforce) - Some teams now responsible for what 5+ teams were responsible for... no work life balance anymore. - Layoffs have overburdened teams with work, slowing GTM velocity. - C level doesn't care about what you're doing unless it's somehow tied to AI. - Enterprise AI pivot is marketing hype gone wrong: "get rich quick with 1 simple trick". TBD if it's actually profitable outside of venture capitol fundraising.

Thank you for your feedback. Our global expansion is a strategic step in our company growth, designed to drive further success in areas of the globe with strong markets for our product. We also would like to clarify that we are hiring for a variety of roles in the US, with sales roles being a part of that. We appreciate your advice as we grow and expand.

Pros

There are a lot of great people at Smartsheet (mostly IC and front-line leadership levels) who deeply care about their role, having success and their clients. The product also has some great fits for project management-oriented work. A lot of clients still love the product and are happy to chat with the account teams.

Cons

There is zero confidence in senior leadership at the organization. The model change has been a complete debacle from the top down for clients and the Smartsheet teams trying to support their transition. Decisions were obviously made in an ivory tower with little to no input from anyone close to the product or clients' needs. As the debacle has unfolded, senior leaders are over-correcting and negotiating against ourselves while completely disregarding the difficult conversations we've had with clients as we tried to navigate the initial transition to the new model with them. The sales team is sacrificing credibility and earnings while the executive team claims to have "thought about all of these challenges while producing the comp plans accordingly". We're now cannibalizing near-term AND future revenue opportunities to keep a subset of clients happy. I acknowledge the balance and correction that was needed for our clients, but our senior leaders have completely disregarded the value that the new model brings and the work that we've put into helping clients understand. I applaud the decision to pause some of the 'true-up' motion because of how broken the technology is, but we continue to chase our tails and react when input from the client-facing positions could have prevented a lot of this.
