Pros

Genuinely cares about gender and ethnic diversity, big strides in this area. Team is growing with new greenfield products to work on with new (100% AWS focused) tech stacks. Ability to work in a lot of different areas and move around teams if you want. Edinburgh taking on more interesting and high profile things nw when it used to be quite limited after the acquisition Work life balance is good, working your 40 is fine, I've had managers push back on late meetings and tell juniors not to work silly hours when they see it. The unlimited holiday policy really is that, I've never had my manager say no. You have to go on-call, but you get a whole day back every time you are whether you have an incident or not. Management push hard for good comp changes; salary, bonus and shares have grown a lot for me every year.

Cons

It has its downsides like every "big" tech company, but most to me of those are focused around the company still being so US based, and not being so good at getting the teams working towards the same goals across four different engineering locations and lots of timezones. This means some of the US principals and distinguished engineers can be really annoying because of this from not comunicating well and early enough Also less sure how to get to principal engineer grades here vs the US. It seems easier to move to engineering manager as team grows rather than get to principal.

Pros

What I like about this place is that you can pursue your passion, and they have an incredible tech stack from which to choose and evolve. Brilliant people to work with and to learn from. They also have a learning budget from which one can benefit. Excellent work-life balance with unlimited leaves. If you have an idea, they host Hack weeks where you can implement and showcase it, potentially leading to product roadmap. Transparent environment , a place where one can provide feedback on management which gets addressed and followed up on.

Cons

Can't think of anything to be honest.

Smartsheet Response

Thank you for your thoughtful review! I’m pleased to see so many aspects of The Smartsheet Way (our core values and competencies) embodied in your feedback. For my team in particular, prioritizing continuously learning and adapting is something we take seriously and it’s wonderful to hear your first-hand experience. One of my favorite embodiments of this critical competency is our annual “Hack the Sheet,” Smartsheet’s internal hackathon. We’re proud to offer employees the opportunity to step away from their day-to-day work and have a go at creating something new. To me, Hack the Sheet is a reminder to each of us to put our ideas out there, and that we all have the power to share our talents to create meaningful change for our customers and for ourselves. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts and I look forward to our team continuing to learn and grow together. – Praerit Garg, Chief Product Officer and EVP of Engineering
