Thanks for taking a moment to provide feedback. I’m sorry your year with us was not a great experience for you. Regarding the title of your review -- we are not downsizing, quite the opposite. Over the past year, Smartsheet launched a Boston office and almost doubled in employee size (85% year over year growth from Oct 2016 to Oct 2017). We’ve continued to invest throughout all functional areas. And we’re looking to grow our teams throughout the coming year, expanding our presence in both Boston and Bellevue. Check out our careers page for current openings (smartsheet.com/careers). Wishing you all the best, --Kara Hamilton, VP of People Operations

Pros

The product sells well. The salary and commission can be very good. You get the best computer hardware out there. Lots of room to climb the ladder if you work hard. Great training team and management team. The company is on the verge of going big.

Cons

Not everyone gets equal selling opportunity. As we grow the books of business get more and more fragmented. Those that have been here a while keep their best accounts and shuffle the rest. The early bird definitely got the worm. But that’s not to say that you won’t make money. Lots of newcomers are hitting their numbers or exceeding them. Attitude is everything, and a willingness to work hard goes a long way with management.

Good company accept the SDR team

Pros

The CDM team is great! The management is very supportive and they set you up to succeed in that role. Most of the account are fairly healthy and customers generally like the product.

Cons

Unfortunately all teams aren’t created equal, atleast in the sales vertical. The poor SDR’s are micromanaged and treated like 2nd class citizens. And it’s now becoming a trend that when they go to HR about their mistreatment, they’re fired. I didn’t realize Smartsheet was the type of company that tolerated retaliation against employees for expressing their concerns. HR is supposed to be a safe place, but apparently not at this company. I’m lucky enough to be apart of a great team there and haven’t had a reason to go but I feel like if I ever did, my days here would be numbered.

Thanks for your feedback. We’re glad you appreciate the client development (CDM) sales culture in Boston. The sales development representative (SDR) position provides an early-career entry point to commercial sales. Success involves consistently hitting several metrics, and our intention is for SDRs to have frequent coaching sessions with their direct manager. With strong performance, there is the opportunity for advancement. We have seen more promotions on this team than departures. In fact, our attrition on this team is less than our overall company trend, which is already below industry averages. Regarding retaliation -- your first thought was correct -- we do not tolerate it. Perceptions of hiring decisions are often the result of not having all of the data, due to protecting that individual’s right to privacy, not the absence of a thorough evaluation process. --Kara Hamilton, VP of People Operations
