Opportunity to gain unmatched experience

Pros

Smithbucklin attracts intelligent people with outstanding attitudes a strong work ethic. Those who succeed the most can handle multiple assignments, are detail oriented and can prioritize well. Because people work on multiple client organizations and projects, they get experience and perspective at twice the rate of their peers that work in stand-alone associations or other corporations. Early in their career, people have access to CEOs and leaders of industry organizations, finance, leadership and strategic planning.

Cons

Working at Smithbucklin is not for everyone. You may have reporting relationships to multiple people, which actually can be a very good thing if you communicate well. You learn different management styles and get feedback from multiple sources. Sometimes supervisors don't connect enough to know one's work load, so you might have to speak up if work load gets too heavy.

Pros

- Thoughtful, consistent, and communicative management team - Employee owned company which improves engagement and purpose - Many continuous improvement efforts to help advance the company and keep progressing into the future. - A mindful and progressive work culture

Cons

- The nature of the field (association management) means that each team has unique client needs and demands. This can provide a disparity between corporate goals/initiatives and client demands/needs.

Pros

Smithbucklin is growing and dedicated towards that growth Positive work being put toward improving culture Office improvements have made positive impact on employees (DCHQ is high quality). Smithbucklin offers the employees a chance to be employee owners. It's a great place to start your career, learn and grow in the business roles.

Cons

No feedback mechanism for senior leaders - this is desperately needed. Team members should be able to provide feedback about Sr. Leaders and have it taken seriously. I've noticed that the rules aren't applied equitably across the organization. There is little to no accountability at the top of the organization. I've witnessed Sr. Leaders arguing on calls with direct reports on the phone. This makes for a very uncomfortable work setting. Corporate functions need a developed career path. The health and welfare benefits are entirely too expensive
