Pros

1) Corporate position salaries, bonus, and benefits (pension plan & 401K) are competitive for the industry. 2) Majority of personnel are high caliber people and good to work with...

Cons

1) Company is encumbered with antiquated production methods--making it extremely difficult to compete on price / efficiency. 2) Smithfield Foods is embedded in an imitator strategy; yet, is even reluctant to introduce copies of competitor's items and downright fearful to attempt new processes, and / or items regionally. 3) Most important con --Smithfield Foods structure reflects a "has vs has not" organization. While top-tier corporate execs enjoy lavish travel retreats, business dinners with $1000+ wine /liquor bills (food additional), the lower level employees must justify the smallest expense for travel reimbursement and factory workers--well, I feel sorry for them.

Pros

Benefits are really good, very few but really good people to work with. Third company employees are super helpful. The pay is fairly decent.

Cons

A lot of drama. Hostile work environment. Lacks teamwork. HR is horrible besides one of the newer HR ladies. Turn the blind eye to unacceptable and unprofessional behavior. Sexual harassment is common and HR will act like nothing is going on.
