Pros

Insurance is the only pro. 12 an hour starting out is a joke for the work you do. My Co workers are good people.

Cons

Management is a joke. Especially the plant managers. HR (specifically Sherri) treats everyone like they're incompetent. They think they are better than you and they dont mind letting you know this. They will work you inthe same job until you cant stand it. I have worked a lot of hard work in my life, I'd rather go pour concrete in the middle of July in a sweatshirt than work at smithfield any longer. Sad place with a horrible turn over rate. Good luck if you work there. You're better off going with fast food.

Toxic environment, where employees are just a number

Pros

Hourly employees are paid weekly, which is something not a lot of places offer. There is opportunity to grow from within, as the requirements for a Supervisor position are just having a GED or High School Diploma. That said, don't be surprised by the high amount of ill-equipped and incompetent leadership you'll be forced to deal with.

Cons

I've seen a devastating drop of morale from when I first started working here. What used to be a company with a family oriented culture that valued employees, has now become a drab environment where everyone is constantly reminded of their expendabilities. To call the ambience cutthroat is an understatement, even your own team will find a way to stab you in the back. As a Supervisor/Manager you'll work a minimum of 55-65 hours a week with no overtime pay. The compensation is not as competitive as other places, which is disappointing from a company of this caliber. That goes for the benefits as well.

Pros

Pay is decent, have an autonomous, flexible schedule

Cons

Management sucks- at ALL levels. At Executive level they have the same old rehashed people who were promoted once their toxic leader retired- carrying the toxic baton to the C suite yet again to keep the poor leadership flame burning. They talk about people being important- Very little signs of that. What’s important is getting to that billion dollar brand status- At any and all costs. They promote those who think like them- no diversity in thought OR management style.
