Pros

Unlimited PTO Flexibility A handful of passionate people

Cons

When a company does a layoff like SoFi did on Jan 9th, 2024, it's pretty insensitive to invite impacted employees to a webinar style zoom room where leaders of the company CLEARLY read from a script. There was absolutely no empathy or care and people who were in the office were asked to gather their things and exit immediately. I know several people who never heard from their direct manager following. Can you imagine talking to your manager every day for years and then being invited to a 15 min zoom call with basically a stranger who tells you your role is eliminated and your access being terminated momentarily? With no reach out from your direct manager who knows the names of your spouse and children? Layoffs are going to happen but it's HOW a company handles these things that determines if folks should be concerned for the future or not. They dangle some pretty progressive benefits in front of you but what you ultimately get is a mediocre team with tons of middle management who all think they're in charge and obviously zero care about just cutting hundreds of people with no explanation other than 'scaling people and processes'. This is overall an insanely stressful place to work. Even when you have a supportive manager, it is a lot of "high priority" busy work that a lot of times gets pushed aside when priorities change and make very little impact. The teams change body of work and structure often and so what you are hired to do is most likely different by 4 months into your job. You can be left with a lot of unclear priorities that ultimately don't matter. Nobody actually cares about work life balance so if you want it- it's possible but you have to set a ton of boundaries. Even when your manager tells you it's okay to take time off, the work will always be more important and you'll never feel like you can actually disconnect.

Hi there, thank you for your feedback and commitment to SoFi over the past few years. The last thing we want is for you to feel that you were not valued or respected during the very difficult decision we had to make as a company last week. We thank you for sharing your feedback, and we hope you are getting the support you need to navigate through this difficult time. For example, we have extended Modern Health and benefit resources for employees impacted, and our internal mobility team is working with eligible employees to see if we can find them another role at the company. Thank you for your hard work and contributions to SoFi. VP Talent Management

Return to Office = Scared Leadership

Pros

Brand Marketing SoFi Stadium Variety of banking products

Cons

SoFi's mission is to provide financial services REMOTELY to all of our members. SoFi does not have a single office customers can access for in person access to their money. SoFi is asking them to instead trust in our innovation to build trust online COMPLETELY REMOTE and yet leadership has recently abandoned this mission for employees. Leadership has done an awful job announcing the return to office leaving most employees questioning why. The delivery has been poor, the communication and reasonings given do not make sense. The only sense that can be made of it is that leadership is scared and following industry trends. I did not join SoFi to work for a "trend follower" instead I joined because SoFi was being bold, innovative, and doing something that has never been done before. I bought into the idea that SoFi was going to change the way the banking system worked. And now SoFi is becoming just like every other bank (except still without offices for customers). There are 5 different main office branches spread out across the US and I work with team members who are hired out of different sites. Even though the majority of my team will not be in the same office I go to, I am still required to go to an office? So I can sit at a desk by myself, and work by myself? And waste 6 hours a week of commuting to do this? For what? SoFi is scared, back pedaling, and getting desperate. Leadership has abandoned their mission of remote banking.

We sincerely appreciate your feedback, thanks for taking the time to leave such a comprehensive review of your experience and feelings around our return to work policy. Across industries, employees have been asked to return to the office to further drive connection, collaboration, and build culture. SoFi is no different - we see value in bringing our employees together. Compared to other companies, we feel our return to office policy is quite flexible and less structured (for example, we do not ask leaders to track attendance), and that is intentional and ties to our overall flexible approach to work. While each business unit has a slightly different approach, in general we are asking employees to come into the office 4 times a month. That said, we understand where you are coming from and would welcome the opportunity to continue this conversation so we can address your concerns directly. Feel free to reach out to me (on the talent team) at glassdoor@sofi.org or speak with your People Business Partner. We really appreciate the feedback and encourage you to continue to share. Thanks for being on this journey with us, take care.
