Pros

Socure is offering good benefits and decent compensation. A lot of people I have collaborated with are super nice and good professionals.

Cons

All I wanted is to build things as an engineer. But I never felt enabled to do so at Socure, since there is tons of bureaucracy, making cross-functional collaboration extremely difficult. Another factor - almost every 2 weeks priority were changed, so any work I would do will become deprioritized and irrelevant. It made it hard to get focused to be able to get to the finish line. Management loves to micromanage and enable others to do so, making the work environment pretty toxic. As a result, I felt tons of anxiety and depression from this job and I had nothing else to do but submit my resignation. I have never regretted my decision. I do not recommend working here and honestly haven't seen such a nightmare anywhere else.

Pros

Good pay. My colleague were nice.

Cons

I didn’t put my full real title as I’m worried since I’m still an employed here. What I will say is that this is the most toxic company I’ve ever worked at. I’m lucky that my team is good - but we all have anxiety of having to interact with Johnny. The reason why is because Johnny is a ruthless leader that has no class. He lives in a bubble, was likely raised in a bubble, and has no idea how to connect with people or encourage them to grow. He consistently berates people and makes them feel bad. Everyone is too scared of him to stand up to him because he just fires people who he doesn’t like. It’s really such a sad classic CEO whose ego is so big and where nothing will change him form behind better. My advice - don’t like the top pay tempt you. Really - go somewhere else. Long term your overall health will be better than having to work here. Johnny will randomly slack us on weekends and late at night with questions on slack with a sense of urgency. There is no work life balance here. Priorities are constantly changing. Product team is a mess - none of them taking ownership over their products and constantly passing the blame to other teams. Everyone is overworked and over stressed.

A toxic mess

Pros

Competitive pay and decent benefits. Fully remote with a monthly WFH stipend, plus a learning stipend of $250/year for books and courses (it was $500 last year though). I worked with some very driven and smart people (who are mostly either burnt out, unhappy, or now laid off).

Cons

All the other negative reviews are SPOT ON and I would NOT recommend working here. Your time and talent will be wasted trying to figure out how to deal with janky tech or fighting the latest fire or updating OKRs every week. Socure brags about hypergrowth, yet have had two rounds of surprise layoffs within 6 months. Clearly, leadership cannot be trusted. The CEO also regularly berates and insults people in front of others on calls, Slack, and emails...ask yourself, would you want to work for somebody like that? Those coming from more mature and stable companies would be appalled with how this company operates. It's no surprise that many people have a hard time being motivated and productive here. And despite what the marketing says, their tech actually isn't very impressive and certainly not "state of the art" (far from it).
