Pros

- A startup with balance: While too many startups burn their employees out with 60+ hour weeks, difficulty getting PTO approved, and a culture of "work harder", Sofar and management really value time off. Yes, it's important that you get your work done, but you don't necessarily need to stay til 8pm in the office to do it. -Beautiful office: The office isn't just awesome on the inside but it's right on the water in SF. The free lunches don't hurt either! -Ownership of your work: There isn't time for micromanagement and it's expected that people will take care of what's in front of them. For some people this can be tough but when you are honest in your application and interviews it makes for a great place to grow and challenge yourself. -Ocean nerds!!!! If working around ocean science and weather models isn't already cool enough, then the Slack channel will keep you excited. Whether it's a discovery of new deep sea creatures, a trip to the beach, or an article on something happening in the ocean space, there is so much to learn about our biggest climate change ally (the ocean) and it's encouraged!

Cons

-Climate change isn't slowing down and so there's a lot to do -If you need hand-holding then this likely isn't the right place -If you are in it for the money then working at big tech is probably a better place to stay (Sofar is still gonna be big btw)

Thanks for the detailed breakdown and bullet points. This feedback and advice is duly noted as we have increased our lunch and learn schedule to almost 2 per/month!

Pros

The CEO and the executive team are mission motivated to leverage technology to improve our waters. They live and breathe it. There is no fluff here! The company is growing fast and the team invites you to be innovative and creative. The company has a great balance of diversity and has created a team with a lot of unique work experiences.

Cons

CHANGE - Sofar Ocean is a startup and with that comes constant change. I embrace it but if you don't like change and growth then this might not be the company for you.

We are glad that you can see the passion our leadership team has for the ocean and climate change. Between their passion for the planet and the strong sense of culture that they have built, we feel strongly that even with changes along the way, we will succeed.
