Pros

Good people, fairly stable place to work. Used to have a lot more pros

Cons

Very dependent on oil prices, so now with low oil prices, they are cutting cost. This has come at the expense of healthcare (much more expensive now with poorer care), bonuses, raises, and every minor perk that we have previously been given. They seem to be trying to lean out so much that they haven't noticed that a majority of employees are actively trying to leave. Politics are overwhelming, you need to kiss the right butts to make it anywhere.

Pros

Employees very rarely get fired or have their "jobs eliminated" due to "family" slow moving corporate culture. Creates a comfort for long term employees. 401k and decent benefits package. Most people will be friendly and helpful. Not a Hire and Fire company. Travel and meals are expensed and supported.

Cons

Very poor leadership and management skills in the Business Development space. Sales Targets for are given with out the employees input and based on outdated business forecasting tools and limited forward looking indicators. 25% of your pay in sales is based on meeting targets. Management controls all project pricing strategies so you are more like a proposal and pricing messenger than an employee with agency over your own sales success with customers. Compensation is not determined by your own work ethic and intelligence. Sales management determines your wins/losses and pricing strategies with out your input or approval. Feedback by team not taken into account and not acted upon after years of the same messages to fix dynamics.

Pros

Almost 100 year old company with a great history in San Diego; with contributions to the world. There used to be a long average 20 year tenure here, so it made the company feel like a family --- everyone worked hard and played hard --- and so the company was a unicorn in that way. There was a ton of knowledge and experience in these employees.

Cons

They are losing the people and traditions that once made them great. Now they are becoming just another company to churn through people and spit them out. Not a safe feeling place to work anymore. They did away with pension. Maybe there are some financial problems because although they are hiring, they are letting good people go suddenly over these past 3 years up until very recently.
