Pros

For now, there aren't a lot of good reasons to work for Solera. There is a generally good team of software and test engineers. There are a few good teams to work for if you're lucky enough to get hired into them.

Cons

Long unpredictable hours and regular night work detract from the work environment. Management has made the decision to close down most of the San Ramon technical center and move to cheaper labor in San Diego and Mexico. This has resulted in a lot of engineers losing their jobs. Many engineers were told how valued they were in a group meeting, but were not offered to relocate to San Diego. With the "San Diego" decision, there has been a fairly quick brain drain and a loss of many key engineers. So the working environment has deteriorated to the point where morale is very low, and I think most people in San Ramon at least, are trying to find greener pastures.

Pros

Did not have my supervisor hanging over my head. She worked in Westlake.

Cons

Working at Solera has been a frustrating experience, and I feel compelled to share a few honest thoughts for those considering a position here. The Reality: Overemphasis on DEI: The company’s focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion feels performative and forced. Instead of building a culture based on merit, skill, or performance, Solera seems more concerned with optics and checkboxes. It’s distracting from the actual work and progress the company should be focused on. Process Paralysis: There are far too many layers of processes for even the simplest tasks. It often feels like more effort goes into following internal procedures than actually solving problems or improving customer outcomes. No Raises or Recognition: Raises are practically nonexistent. Hard work is rarely acknowledged, and career growth feels arbitrary. Motivation suffers when effort and outcomes aren't tied to compensation or advancement. Leadership Disconnect: The leadership culture is infantilizing. Upper management frequently uses emojis and GIFs to communicate — which comes across as unprofessional and condescending. It creates a lack of seriousness around important company matters. Opaque Decision-Making: Transparency is not a strength at Solera. Decisions are made at the top without explanation, and the rationale behind them is rarely shared. It often feels like the company is being run behind a curtain — think Wizard of Oz, but without the magic. Bottom Line: Solera may be a major player in its space, but internally, it's struggling. The company is bogged down by shallow culture initiatives, poor communication, can't pay it's bills and a leadership style that doesn't inspire confidence or respect. Until these foundational issues are addressed, I can’t recommend it as a rewarding place to work.

Pros

Very few pros left other than remote work and a few good co-workers and customers still remain from the legacy companies and products before Solera acquired them and destroyed them

Cons

Believe all the negative reviews. This place is by far most toxic culture I've ever experienced professionally and it all starts with upper management. They push their own agendas at the expense of employees and customers. It's all for the shareholders and to try to IPO (if they can ever convince anyone to actually believe in the company enough to invest in it, which I personally think will never happen). I have personally seen 8 different director and VP level employees resign over the past 2 years and it's all due to what I described above and toxic executives at the top. They also have fired so many good employees, we can't bill, build, onboard, or support existing or new customers at all, but that doesn't stop leadership from mandating sales and quotas from teams and departments that aren't even in sales! There is so much more I can say but suffice to say, this place will crash and burn soon and you don't want to be there when it happens.
