Pros

Office provides lunch/grocery money if you choose not to eat lunch Pets to work

Cons

If you are black don't expect to move up in this company. Francis the CEO is well aware of the discrimination we faced working at Sonder and made minimal efforts to confront the problem or fix it. HR has no diversity training. And has never received diversity training. I have the email to prove it. Management sucks, they lie a lot. High turnover rate. I'm really glad I no longer work there!

Thank you for leaving a review, although we are saddened and disappointed to hear about your experience with us. While you are correct, we do not currently have a company-wide diversity training, Sonder has made significant progress to embed Diversity, Equity and Inclusion into all aspects of the company. This includes holding ‘Courageous Conversations’ for employees to understand how systemic discrimination reveals itself, both externally and internally. We have formed leadership steering and action committees who have organized employee resource groups and designed an unconscious bias training path that will empower us to co-create a culture of allyship and inclusion. Again, we are sorry to hear your experience was negative, but we would welcome to expand the conversation if you’re comfortable, by reaching out to our HR Partners via email at hrbp@sonder.com.

Pros

I worked with some really wonderful people on my team. I was able to spend a lot of time autonomously.

Cons

The pay is absolutely not enough for the amount of work you will be and are expected to do. You will literally wear a thousand hats and the "start-up mentality" will be used as an excuse for literally everything. I've worked for small businesses and let's be real - what they're doing is far more wild than a start-up, but with a much better work/life balance. I felt like my skills were used up until they were dry, we changed protocols and applications, and systems every week, and no one knew what they're job actually was. Also - I never felt ethical about what we were doing. This is obviously personal, but if you care about gentrification and you care about sustainability, run away from this opportunity. There's a head of sustainability but let me tell you about how much recycling goes to the garbage in these local markets...the units don't even have recycling as an option? Sonder is a "no" from me, hunny!

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us, and are saddened to hear it wasn’t more positive. Our focus is to grow strategically across key markets while continuing to strengthen the product and technology that powers the Sonder experience. We have implemented different platforms in the last year specifically to help us improve processes and efficiencies, as well as routing Guests directly to the market team where they are staying. We are also committed to being competitive in pay, benefits, and perks. Sonder takes great effort in our sustainability efforts, and this is an area we continue to improve upon. This includes increasing our recycling availability, reducing the use of single-use items, and sourcing sustainably made products. One of the things we also strive for in every market we enter is that we are good neighbors, and contribute to the growth and success of the communities we are in. One great example is when Sonder contributed over $100k worth of furniture to help refurbish living spaces in the city of Vancouver’s non-market housing program. In other examples, Sonder’s commitment to real estate developments has stabilized financial prospects to ensure buildings are built, and that they have affordable housing included. Those buildings wouldn’t exist without Sonder. We’re very proud to be able to do so much to support our communities, even as we try to become a profitable, self-sustaining business. We appreciate your time with us and wish you the best in your future endeavors.
