Chaotic and political, bully culture

Pros

The problems the team is solving is really interesting, and there's a lot of dedication to deliver a high quality experience.

Cons

The culture is pretty toxic at HQ (and from what I could understand, also at other offices). It's deeply un-collaborative and political. Whoever could get the closest to the CEO got their projects funded and their strategy enacted, so people are jockeying for position. Because it is so political, there is a kind of bully culture that's really off-putting. Some people thrive in that culture, but those who are looking for collaboration and teamwork leave pretty quickly. A lot of the positive reviews are from recruiting pressuring people to outweigh the negative reviews.

Company with potential, maybe?

Pros

A lot of hardworking individuals who are passionate about what they do. Like many companies in the Bay Area Sonder also has good perks. The vision of the CEO is aspirational as well.

Cons

There are also people that need to go in order for Sonder to be successful. The CEO favors those who have been with the company for awhile and cannot see how some individuals are dragging it down. Tough decisions need to be made and people need to be matched to the right roles. There are a lot of competency gaps at Sonder and it weighs on everyone else.

"Hospitality Everywhere except internally"

Pros

The relationships made here were something to cherish! In these difficult times where Sonder found themselves in a position to lay off hundred of employees I can only say that those who were laid off were the ones I could lean on for support.

Cons

Poor people management! Even before lay offs it became clear that Sonder does the most to entertain investors before investing in its people. There is no doubt that the senior leadership can manage a complex business, but the decision making processes are something too question. Growth happened far too rapidly and the company was not prepared for potential "worst case scenarios". For a hospitality company there is a clear lack of understanding this term re: staff.
