Pros

I certainly appreciate the benefits that are awarded to us by both the company and the union's negotiations. among those are very competitive pay for the area, generous vacation time, and while we do work a good bit of overtime when the work schedule demands it, we have a pretty good work/life balance. compared to some of my past employers, management does seem like they care about the employee's well-being a bit more, I have personally been asked by the plant manager a plethora of times how I'm doing and how I'm liking everything,

Cons

since we do sometimes go from a "continuous" to a "non-continuous" schedule due to lack of business, the size of your paycheck will take a hit but this is simply an attempt to avoid laying off employees. while I did receive a pretty thorough three months of training I have heard from my co-workers in other departments that training can be a rushed process where they aren't entirely confident in how to perform their job. At times expectations as far as production or workload can be a bit foggy and are told to just do what you can and sometimes what you can do isn't quite enough in the eyes of supervisors who are likely getting a talking to from upper management and that rolls downhill to you.

Pros

I used to love my job- it was challenging yet rewarding. I was involved and appreciated for my contributions. I could stay in my comfort zone or push myself- I wasn’t forced one way or another. I was rewarded by creating additional value to the company and meeting team goals. I was given all the tools and software that were required for my job. They have amazing diversity and equality groups as well that make me feel somewhat included.

Cons

Recently, they’ve restructured my department and literally moved or let go of everyone pre-pandemic. They made some life-altering decisions regarding my job without any consideration of me, my work history, or my skill set. They informed me in an anonymous meeting and then released the news company-wide when I was on vacation. I’ve been with Sonoco for 8 years and expected some respect regarding my livelihood but wasn’t given it. My new team is great but my career path is completely messed up.

Company is over 120 years old. Prides itself on sustainability. Competitive salaries. Forward thinking.

Cons

I don't always feel seen or heard although I work extremely hard.
