Pros

Loved the people! Bright, nerdy, fun. Even middle management is cool and sweet.

Cons

Season is grueling - LONG days, unforgiving deadlines, and then things slow down from January's mania but it's still really heavy at least thru June. For many of the segments there's little to no knowledge base/wiki, and training is kind of a joke of soulless power points without any attention to the social science of pedagogy or how folks learn.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. I love your comments about your co-workers, and I couldn’t agree more. Sovosians are talented, inspired and motivated individuals who are a joy to work with. I also agree that there are peaks and troughs in workload throughout the year. Like most companies, we have times of year that are busier than others for us that’s definitely tax season. Where I don’t quite agree is on the feedback regarding our training. However, our company has an intranet where anyone can access documentation, wiki and knowledgebase, as well as a dedicated LMS where even remote training is brought to life. It also sounds like you are passionate about teaching methodologies, which we are too at Sovos. We have chosen to take an approach that is more aligned with andragogy vs. pedagogy. Which is really to say that we favor adult learning theories and user centric design. It allows us to focus on learning as a personalized journey as opposed to something more rigid, which we’ve found to be very effective. We have been consistently recognized for our training impacts by Training Magazine’s APEX Awards stack ranking in the top third, alongside world leading organizations. That being said, we take all employee feedback onboard, so thank you for taking the time to provide your thoughts, and for the time you spent with us as a valued member of the team. We wish you luck in your next role. – Paul Banker, General Manager

Pros

Flexibility with working from home.

Cons

The turnover rate is incredibly high in this role, and management doesn't seem to do anything about it, no matter how much you voice your concerns. Because of this, lots of unnecessary errors are made on clients' behalf, and more "experienced" associates are left to clean up the mess. Be prepared to have little work-life balance; in January you will be working 70+ hours a week with no extra pay. This role takes advantage of unexperienced workers looking for an entry level position. Supervisors move into their role fast because of the turnover, so some supervisors are no help to new hires, which causes stress on new employees. If you are looking for stability and want to keep your sanity, look elsewhere.

First, thank you for working with us during the January tax season. This is a busy time of the year for Tax Compliance Professionals – much more so than other months. Our customers count on us to Keep Our Promise and meet their needs, and we work hard to meet this commitment. That being said, I am sorry that you felt you did not have a good experience or felt your manager did not care about your concerns. That is not the norm. Our most recent employee engagement survey from Compliance Services in Minneapolis indicated that 3 out of 4 reps agree to the statements “my manager cares about my concerns” and “my manager make it easier to do my job.” . It seems we missed an opportunity here. Regarding newly promoted supervisors, as a company we are committed to creating an environment where talented, inspired and motivated individuals can grow. Part of actioning that commitment is to promote from within when able. If we see the potential, we are willing to provide that opportunity, and provide the right support to ensure our managers can succeed. The people rising to those actions are what makes our company great, and what makes a seasonal busy time of the year worth it. Again, thank you for your time with us and we wish you luck in your next role. - Paul Banker, General Manager
