Pros

Good benefit, good RSU(used to be), very good work life balance

Cons

Splunk used to be a great company when I joined Splunk 5 years ago. But recently, too many politics around company, CTO after CTO, senior VPs after Senior VPs, things are getting worse and worse, a lot of good people left. There are bunch of Senior directors/directors who don't know how to create good products, instead they are very good at politics. It's very bad to see that Splunk is going to this way.

Pros

So many great people to work with, lots of cool problems to solve and many opportunities to touch all the modern areas of software development. Pay is very good and the benefits are generous. Work life balance is good.

Cons

Upper management is combative, aggressive and short sighted often putting their own ideas in front of the engineering teams recommendations. Many of them use divide and conquer tactics to pit people against one another. Maybe the most toxic management culture I've ever been involved in. Often it is hard to even come up with a good reason to engage with them except for not wanting to get shouted at later.

Nepotism gone wild!

Pros

Lots of booze, good RSUs, food

Cons

Fast growth led to uncontrollable nepotism. People grossly unqualified for their roles is the norm, zero attention to employee growth and development. Level of politics matches that of a presidential campaign. Those promoted beyond their qualifications make every underhanded attempt to cling to their positions. Despite common knowledge of friendships between people and those that hired them despite being unfit for their roles, no action is taken.
