Compensation is some of the lowest in the area. Turnover for many positions is extremely high. Benefits are fair, but take-home pay is abysmal. Many employees in lower-paid positions qualify to receive state or federal benefits of some kind such as food stamps and housing assistance. Many employees are food insecure and struggle to keep their families afloat. Administrators claim "employees are our greatest resource", but they turn a blind eye to problems. The county has been mismanaged for years and years, and corrupt elected officials only make the problem worse. Unions have filed dozens of unfair labor practice claims over the years and have prevailed in many cases, yet Spokane County continues to abide by their principles of underhandedness, lying, hypocrisy, and derision toward employees.
