Spreetail, like other Nebraska companies, is made up of an almost entirely white workforce largely hiring friends, spouses, and former coworkers. The leadership of this company has no authority to speak on this subject as their actions clearly indicate they do not see this as an issue. Worse yet, even when presented with opportunities to increase diversity they have gone the other way.
An important distinction needs to be made between the main offices in Lincoln and Omaha and the fulfillment centers around the country. These FC's are largely staffed by people of color who do physically demanding work in sometimes brutal conditions. These FC employees are used as cover whenever the subject of diversity comes up, but they're in no position of power, not in the room of any decision making, and receive a fraction of the compensation of their white counterparts in Nebraska.
What makes this worse in my opinion, is we are actively hiring and relocating for numerous positions. These are good-paying jobs with well-qualified people from all backgrounds applying. This is/was an opportunity to bring a more diverse workforce to Nebraska. But again, when HR/Leadership don't see this as an issue actually worth addressing with actions - nothing actually changes.
My hope is that in time more people will be hired at this company who represent the customers we serve, not the friends of people who went to school in this state. But without a change in leadership I don't think this will happen.
