Some Nice Benefits but Bad Management and Borderline Slavery

Pros

Company trips are fun and there are some genuinely nice people that work there. You get the run of the mill benefits, which is nice. They will spend money on decent IT equipment.

Cons

Don't expect to ever go home at a decent hour or spend time with your kids on the weekend. They work you 50+ hours a week, in fact, they used to advertise that you'd be working that much. There is no work/life balance with Spreetail. If you're not all work, you're out. Don't fall for their unlimited vacation time "perk". You won't use the time and you'll be shunned for taking time off. Performance reviews are a joke. You'll have stellar reviews the entire 3+ years you're there and still get fired without warning and without getting a reason. This happened to multiple people, including myself. If you plan on drinking the kool-aid and snuggling up to your boss for 50+ hours, this job is for you. Don't expect to get paid much, unless you're a software engineer.

Spreetail Response

We’re disappointed to hear that your experience with us was not a positive one. There’s no doubt our team works hard; we never put off to tomorrow what we can tackle today and always seek opportunities to take on more. We recognize and are transparent that those simply seeking a 9-5 are probably not the best fit for Spreetail. However, what makes our company different is not just the intensity and pace about our business, but also the deep and meaningful personal relationships we hold with one another. Our benefits are meant to encourage these relationships, as well, including company events with other Spreetailers and vacation time shared with loved ones. If you have any additional feedback to share, we encourage you to contact us at careers@spreetail.com. Thank you.

Pros

With a change in leadership and concerted effort to bring a diversity of background and thought, this company could compete with other eCommerce and tech brands. Until then, it just feels like a homegrown startup that says the right things with no action to back it up.

Cons

Spreetail, like other Nebraska companies, is made up of an almost entirely white workforce largely hiring friends, spouses, and former coworkers. The leadership of this company has no authority to speak on this subject as their actions clearly indicate they do not see this as an issue. Worse yet, even when presented with opportunities to increase diversity they have gone the other way. An important distinction needs to be made between the main offices in Lincoln and Omaha and the fulfillment centers around the country. These FC's are largely staffed by people of color who do physically demanding work in sometimes brutal conditions. These FC employees are used as cover whenever the subject of diversity comes up, but they're in no position of power, not in the room of any decision making, and receive a fraction of the compensation of their white counterparts in Nebraska. What makes this worse in my opinion, is we are actively hiring and relocating for numerous positions. These are good-paying jobs with well-qualified people from all backgrounds applying. This is/was an opportunity to bring a more diverse workforce to Nebraska. But again, when HR/Leadership don't see this as an issue actually worth addressing with actions - nothing actually changes. My hope is that in time more people will be hired at this company who represent the customers we serve, not the friends of people who went to school in this state. But without a change in leadership I don't think this will happen.
