Pros

Parts of the company that aren't involved in the product and engineering lifecycle seem to be well run and happy. If you're a social worker, it pays better than most job opportunities.

Cons

I'm writing this review because I hope this will help potential candidates be informed and make the best decision for their career. I cannot, in good faith, recommend Spring Health for Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, or any related discipline. If you can make money elsewhere, do so. If you do decide to apply, make sure to ask about retention, as well as speak with current employees about burnout, and average tenure. It likely won't impress you. I'm also writing this review because another reviewer said: " I read all the negative reviews before I joined and had some reservations, I can honestly tell you they are wrong [...] instinct that most of the people who left negative reviews did not want to put in the time or energy to make this start-up or any start-up successful. They rather cruise by." I can say, with absolute confidence, that this is not true. In fact, it's insulting. Very few people worked at Spring Health longer than me. Very few people put more effort into Spring Health than I did. I didn't make a difference. The people I worked with gave their all to make the company work, and they didn't make a difference either. That's why burnout is so pervasive. People are lured in by the company mission, work extremely hard, and get nothing in return. I worked at Spring Health for many years. I hired many people -- many friends -- to come join Spring Health. I outlasted them all. They all got burned out, felt disrespected, and felt like their mental health didn't matter to the company. I worked weekends, holidays, and nights to try to better the company for our employees as well as our clients. It was not worth it. Some parts of this organization are run well. Product and Engineering is not. The turnover there has eclipsed any company I have ever worked at (including a company that literally had to stop paying employees because they ran out of money. That company retained engineers better than Spring Health). The pace of development is slower than glacial. It's basically frozen in time. The last major update was in 2019. The quoted commenter (a Director a Spring Health) echoes the mentality of the leadership perfectly. If you don't fit at Spring, it's your fault. If your experience is negative, you should try harder. If you're unhappy, it's because start ups aren't a good fit for you. It's toxic, insulting, and invalidating. And it's pervasive at this company. It's top-down. The reality is that most of the employees that Spring churned WERE good fits. The leadership is just too stubborn to allow people to be experts in their field and make a difference.

Thank you for your candid feedback. It is unfortunate to hear that your experience at Spring Health did not match our standards. It is without a doubt we have seen significant changes in our Engineering and Product teams due to an increase in demand for mental health solutions and widespread company growth, all while striving to create the best product for our customers. We have made great strides to provide a more sustainable strategy for this team, recently hiring a CTO that is fully invested and committed to thoughtfully revamping the Engineering and Product team structure and building an inclusive, dynamic and caring culture. We deeply value our employees and their lives within and outside of Spring Health, and we are actively developing solutions to improve their quality of life.

An exciting mission, but challenging culture

Pros

Spring Health has a lot of tailwinds at a time when many startups are struggling. There is and incredibly strong sales team growing the business and appetite for the solution within the market. This means there is a lot of potential at Spring Health to grow your career, support a great mission, and grow the company.

Cons

I read the reviews before joining and had a sense of what I was likely getting into, but if you're not used to a very individualistic, and at time combative, culture Spring Health will not be a great fit for you. Of the startups I've been a part of (one of which is at the same scale as Spring) Spring is by the far the most political. Spring also has the unfortunate habit of promoting people and behaviors that perpetuate a culture of shifting blame and seizing wins. To get a sense of this I'd refer you to the infamous insider article (google it). Culture comes from the top and the two co-founders have set an example that many high-performers emulate. In my ~3 months at Spring I've seen both co-founders make comments in public slack channels that nitpick, point blame, and undermine individuals across the organization. As a female myself, it was disheartening to have my first female CEO perpetuate the exact behaviors Spring Health publicly condemns (just look at our blog!) There is so much opportunity to be better and retain talent.

Sigh...

Pros

There are some wonderful people working there - and the toxic environment creates bonds. Leadership is genuinely invested in D&I and welcomes dissenting opinions on some topics. Relevant to today's market and growing exponentially - this company will be successful.

Cons

Oh Spring Health, I really wanted to like you. But... I have never seen so many talented people feeling so stressed out, and outputting such average work as a result. Brilliant, smart employees quitting after less than a year, multiple burnouts... I've also never seen company culture discussed so often, ironically. There is a lot of lip service paid to "family comes first", but I've seen potential candidates penalized for merely asking about work-life balance in interviews. Notice how a lot of the positive reviews are saying "not for you if you're not smart/fast/dedicated enough..." Blaming the negative experiences of employees on their own supposed incompetence - says it all. And even if it were the case, why are so many incompetent people hired in the first place?
