Pros

It's a steady income and it teaches you what to look for in an employer so you will not make the same mistake again.

Cons

Like others have noted, the culture is horrible. Everything has a short term focus, it's all about getting the sale and you'll find yourself facing ethical dilemmas on a daily basis. I feel said about good people who recently bought a house from SMH.

Great show, minimal go

Pros

There's a well oiled marketing machine behind you.

Cons

It's all marketing and show. Selling an SMH product is like acting in an infomercial - where overpriced products are sold purely on based on spin. However, the show cannot go uninterrupted forever and soon the poor quality of the product and the lack of post sale service comes to bite you. It has now becoming an increasing challenge to work against the word of mouth based reputation for questionable quality and complaints of non-existent post sale service.

Pros

The few old timers that are left are great

Cons

Management / HR / marketing is posting positive reviews and been asking other to help masking all the problems. Spending too much time hearing buyers complaining because of the use of lowest cost subcontractors and a warranty process that is designed to contain costs and to drive satisfaction/repeat buyers. People talk and the word is out. It is hard for women or minorities to will be hard to be a part of the " in crowd".
