Pros

Free 1 lbs of coffee/week, health benefits (though, you don't make enough money to pay for it anyway), free drinks while working, 30% discount off products. It's nice that you could transfer to any other store in the world.

Cons

A lot of hard physical work and multi-tasking is required for very little pay. There is a lot of gossip in my store that causes problems. This shouldn't be too much of a surprise based on the caliber of people who work there. There is a lack of professionalism when it comes to being on the floor and in the back. When I interviewed, I was told that there is room for growth and possibilities to improve my situation greatly. Even if I was a shift, I wouldn't be making enough money to pay all of my bills (phone, student loans, rent, pet, basic bills--nothing fancy). I had heard great things about Starbucks, but overall I have not been satisfied with my experience and am actively searching for a "real" job.

Pros

Rarely does a company walk the talk. While not perfect (what company is?), Starbucks manages to infuse the corporate environment with its high principles and actually apply that to decision making. Result is a company you can believe in, and a pretty good work/life balance.

Cons

Consensus environment can be hard to navigate. Gaining agreement to move forward requires org savvy, so might not be for those who need quick decisions and/or are not good with the people skills.
