Pros

Not many great things to say right now

Cons

They can’t keep claims employees for anything right now because they’re working them to death instead of hiring a proper amount of people, performance managing those who don’t carry their weight, and providing proper training. I work in an administrative assistant position but was just involuntarily reassigned to work as a claim associate for a few weeks. They frame it as a “development opportunity.” I don’t want development in claim handling. If I wanted to be a claim handler, I would have applied to be one. This was done on a Friday afternoon and is effective Monday. We got zero information about what we’d be doing, and we’re once again given the message that the work we do as admins is not important and can just be dropped. Love spending the whole weekend anxious and wondering what I’m walking into Monday.

Pros

Most managers during my career have been supportive and I've always had amazing coworkers. State Farm encourages continued education and offers us access to various programs, including a great tuition reimbursement program.

Cons

Everything we do is monitored and measured. Metrics and time spent in each work type is recorded daily. Underwriters used to have more decisionmaking duties, but now we're separated into different responsibilities and becoming less and less effective and knowledgeable in the overall underwriting process. In addition, management really stepped up during the pandemic and allowed work from home. Employees proved we could do it and succeed, but now so many people who want to continue to work from home are told we're going back to the office in July 2021. Many teams are comprised of members across different zones who will never be face-to-face, so why make people do something when they're apprehensive or unhappy?

Pros

Salary, benefits, tuition reimbursement, great coworkers for the most part

Cons

Too much focus on metrics all day long, expected to do more in fewer hours, inconsistent management within departments. Rare positive feedback from management - metrics are used in a negative way and employee morale is low. Little opportunity for advancement unless you “buddy up” to the right managers.
