Pros

As a part-time employee I get medical and vision insurance, and I get to participate in the 401(k). State Farm also offers bonuses every year, as long as the company ears a profit. State Farm also still offers a pension plan.

Cons

Salary for para-professional positions is way below average. Geico pays their reps $15.50 an hour for only taking auto claims. State Farm wants their reps to handle both Auto and Fire claims, and only wants to pay $12.91/hour. There is also too much micromanagement in the customer services roles. Unless you are willing to move to Bloomington, IL you won't have a chance to move beyond a third, maybe fourth, level of management.

Pros

State Farm is one of the few companies that still has a pension system. If you are of an age where you can take advantage of a pension this is certainly a bonus. However this probably wont last long.

Cons

During my time at State Farm I have heard vague and distant rumors of people who had competent managers, however in my experience management is in there position due to seniority not intelligence or managerial skill. State Farm is currently undergoing a company wide migration. People who have worked here for decades are having to post for a new job or leave the company. Ed Rust Jr recently announced that he will be stepping down. This leads me to believe that there will be even further changes within the org. Many of the mass hiring positions open now are on a temporary basis. If you wish to join a company and keep a job for years this company is not the place to do it. Change is coming to state farm and it is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

Pros

The benefits are amazing, not many companies offer a benefits package like state farm.

Cons

They are extremely misleading upon offering you a job. I understand that change is constant, but they offer you an IDEAL schedule that is to start after your training program, so that you will accept the offer, but then they change it to the crappiest schedule ever once your training is over. EVERYONE who went through the training program experienced this.
