Pros

I work in an agent's office and it really varies from agency to agency...I've heard some nightmare stories from other employees but my eperience has been overall a positive one. The rates are relatively competitive so generally morale is pretty good, and we offer a ton of products (almost 160 at last count?) so every agency should be able to find a niche.

Cons

The company is going through a lot of changes right now and I'm not sure if they're for the good. In order to cut operating costs the regional office performance has TANKED compared to two years ago. Also if you're working for an agent that has been around awhile expect zero help from state farm corporate because they get paid a higher commission than the new guys.

Pros

Financially strong company. Industry leader. Agency opportunity is good in high premium states, very difficult to make a living in low premium states. Promote from within to a fault. Opportunities everywhere in the country. They still have a good old fashioned pension for employees.

Cons

Only those that are financial service producers get promoted. Very few opportunities to get hired by the company above entry level. Seems quasi-government at times. Illustrations provided by leadership to recruit agents are overstated by about 70%+ in some cases. Slow to change.
