Pros

If you’re in the right team, perhaps there are pros.

Cons

I had heard horror stories before I took the job, but I ignored them. Do NOT work in the corporate steve madden office. My manager had zero leadership skills, no compassion and a clear distorted sense of importance. I was poached from a cozy job and thrown to the wolves at Steve Madden. 0/10 would recommend. If the lime green aesthetic didn’t already deter anyone from engaging with this company, I hope this post helps do the trick. The office is not in LIC either, it’s in Sunnyside Queens - a generally unpleasant commute. Oh and HR is just as incompetent. They should work on their diversity and inclusion, as well. Do. Better.

Pros

There is a clear love of the brand within the company and there is truly an opportunity to be creative with the work that is done. Peers are really rooting for the brand to succeed and wants the brand to do well, and, by proxy, you to do well. The product is seriously phenomenal - there is a lot of love, work and creativity that goes into their styles and it was a joy to be a small part of that.

Cons

There is NO support from senior management, and there is no clear goal beyond making money - so it is hard to be successful. Teams are pretty cliquey and environment is not conducive to new employees. There is no real onboarding process. WAY too many cooks in the kitchen, and opinions of certain people are the only ones that matter, even if it is not their role or department.

Pros

Good name for a resume, you will definitely build a nice portfolio.

Cons

Overworked and underpaid Very white, at the corporate level of 700 employees, there are less than 90 black people. So it is very hard to see anyone who looks like you in leadership, in fact there are only two black men at senior level management. The company is very white and very jewish. While they are setting up initiatives to boost diversity, there is still a disconnect in promoting and and investing in the Black talent that exists, internally at the same rate of the white counterparts.
