Pros

Perks, benefits, pay, equity—everything you hear about when you're being recruited is incredible. The company is also full of really intelligent, kind people.

Cons

They expect non-stop work (think 15+ hour days, every day), despite saying they value and encourage work/life balance. Every day even the top performers show up thinking they may get fired. Also the health benefits are misleading if you are using an out of network provider. Many things that are considered "covered" (acupuncture, physical therapy, etc.) have to go through multiple rounds of approvals through a third party provider. I've never experienced this at any other company, especially on a PPO plan. There's also no way to tell ahead time if they are going to put your medical care under scrutiny because everyone at the insurance company says the care is covered and so does the Stripe-provided plan summary. All of my medical providers hate working with the third party (AHS) and some have said they need me to pay fully out of pocket because this administrator is such a headache to work with .

Pros

- Overall compensation and benefit package is a stand-out among other fintechs - Challenging work that pushes you to think outside of the norm - Presents itself in a flashy and attractive way that makes every day feel exciting. You really do feel like you are working on and contributing to the best thing on the market - It truly is a fun place to work when you look past the cons

Cons

- Work life balance does not exist... and it's almost like they're proud of it. One of the people who interviewed me told me to make sure that I strictly enforced my start and end times. I wish I had taken that warning more seriously - No care and support for employees. HR is non-existent, and leadership is out for their own personal interests. Any manager who shows a single sign of caring for their direct reports seems to be pushed out. If you're lucky, your manager will get replaced... if you're not lucky, you'll just get passed around (Stripe seems to be very against filling open positions and more interested in cutting roles) - Unbelievable employee turnover - Lackluster management - Confusing organizational structure that defies the limits of common sense - Teams often left understaffed, resulting in underperformance - and the blame is then placed on individual employees as opposed to leadership taking responsibility - Having worked in fintech for years, I was appalled at the lack of functionality, structure and process. Every day it seemed like we were doing something that was a violation... all for the sake of revenue. Stripe needs to find a better balance between supporting customers and doing things the right way - If you are not your manager's favorite, they will find ways to push you out no matter what value you bring to the organization - Virtually no opportunities for career advancement. While joining Stripe seemed like an exciting opportunity, it actually set me back in my skill set and career advancement - Employees do not collaborate well. Everything is a competition - yet you are evaluated based on your "collaboration" - The indoctrination is real

Pros

Pays well Benefits are great Colleagues are smart

Cons

Culture is the worst I’ve ever seen…. Teams are constantly trying to cut each other down to get the upper hand. Managers use underhanded tactics to belittle their direct reports. I was warned by a current employee not to join when I got the offer, and I ignored them. I’ve regretted that decision ever since. Of course, there are exceptions - I’ve met a handful of kind, collaborative people there - but overall the culture is cruel and cutthroat.
