Pros

Intelligent, kind, hardworking people (mostly). Good pay. Offers 8 weeks family medical leave if you burn out or need a break for whatever reason.

Cons

Operations is chaotic, decentralized and poorly managed by senior leadership. There is poor work life balance depending on what team you're on. There is also no transparent performance management processes. Company does rapid, silent PIPs (15% target per performance review cycle) and fires instead of doing layoffs, similar to Amazon. People one day just aren't there anymore. Just check out Blind.

Pros

- Team is incredible, the hiring bar is extremely high, so everyone I meet is extremely smart and driven. - Bold company vision and mission. Once you join and learn about the product roadmap, you realize it's much more than just a payments company. - Transparency culture. Everyone is open about the entire decision-making process, and communicates successes and failures across the company so we all have a realistic sense of how the company is performing. - Opportunity for impact is extremely high.

Cons

- Interview process (for software engineers at least) is quite different from most other similar companies, so we lose out on a lot of otherwise-great candidates that end up being unprepared.

Pros

Polyglot company. Lots to play with

Cons

Terribad management. Confided about a mental health issue to mgr and received a glib response that "Stripe isn't for everyone". If I had kept better records, I'd have filed a lawsuit. Mgrs overpromise and the understaffed team takes the brunt. I don't know if they either don't know how to manage people and projects or they just don't care but management is atrocious. No guidance, play favorites, people definitely get managed out
