Stripe is not a company for nice people
Pros
The benefits at Stripe are amazing. Home office allocation, education benefit, great medical/dental.
Cons
You cannot have an opinion. If you want to debate or discuss something, you will have a target on your back. Your job will not be safe during maternity leave. You will either come back to have to find a new job, or you will be immediately laid off because you are "redundant". Obscene working hour expectations. Expected to meet in US, EMEA, and APAC hours, often within a single day Your workload, your projects, and your priorities are always at the whim of whatever triggers John and Patrick's recent interest. You will constantly hear "drop everything, this is Patrick's TOP PRIORITY" on even the most minor of issues You will be expected to fill in for positions that you are not paid for. Even on rotation you are often doing a more complex job for your same pay. When on rotation, your team is not given a backfill for your role, so they are left hurting. Your base+bonus looks great until you realize that Stripe has targets for how many people can "Exceed Expectations". Given that Stripe hires such high caliber people, getting a "meets" is a challenge. Managers will downtier people based on their targets for how many people can be in each review category, often for arbitrary reasons. Stripe constantly lays off people only to rehire in India, at a massive cost savings. Nothing is done with the results of Stripe Sat surveys. You will be expected to be on call but not compensated for it You may go through up to 10 rounds of interviews on an amazing candidate, only to have them rejected because they didn't pass the esoteric uplevel interview.
