Pros

Sunstate employees pre Norty Turner being brought in as CEO were amazing and upheld the original Sunstate culture. If you are able to stay, you definitely have some room to grow here.

Cons

The new CEO was hired from the outside. Norty Turner holds little to, if any at all, of the values that the Watts family had worked hard to uphold. Sunsate was a family and people first kind of company. After Norty took over, it seemed to be less and less of that and more of how can we squeeze more profit. His first 100 days began with layoffs, crunches, squeezes. Really, it was a disrespect to all the wonderful people sunstate has acquired over the years. Do not expect the CEO to hold any loyalty to you if you join. Save your loyalty to a company who has a CEO that actually cares because Sunstate is no longer that company.

Thank you for sharing your perspective—and for the contributions you made during your time at Sunstate. We understand that leadership changes, especially in a company with such a strong cultural legacy, can be difficult and deeply personal. The difficult decisions reflect a broader commitment to ensuring Sunstate remains strong, sustainable, and ready for the future.

Pros

Lots of OT, getting to work on such a wide range of heavy equipment including aerial equipment.

Cons

too much OT, Management is from the same family so they all protect each other; oldest sibling is senior management of entire bay area. Branch managers are extremely cocky :( every repair is treated as an emergency. Entire workforce is Blue collar vs White Collar. Medical benefits are trash for both singles and familys

We appreciate the time you took to provide feedback. Sunstate prides itself on it's people, and is constantly looking for ways to increase engagement and career opportunities for employees. We have a large number of re-hires each year, and offer a very welcoming environment if your situation should ever change.

Pros

Loved the branches and branch leadership. Hard working folks getting the job done every day and making money.

Cons

Lots of dependency on external IT consultants. Revolving door on IT consultants and staff and a very volatile IT roadmap and projects.
