The troops are great, the senior leaders are bad and middle management is egregiously bad.

Pros

The people who are on the ground taking care of patients, tend to really care about patients. This includes most of the hospitalists and some of the other docs. The medical, dental, and vision benefits are good.

Cons

The middle management pool is made up of old-school micro managers who think this is an assembly line plant and they're descendents of Henry Ford. The senior management care only about saving the hospital money so they can get a bonus on top of their already ridiculous salaries (and there are waaaaayy more executives than necessary--a good ol boy network). The boards of the hospital and foundation are stocked with egomaniacs who care nothing about the art of healing.

There is a extra layer of management that provides no value whatsoever. Why pay for these people to be here when they are essentially worthless. Supervisors are over-worked and under paid. I'd never want to "supervise" at this place.

Pros

As an accountant, we're taught in college to do what's right, because the public needs to be able to rely on our financial statements. Some companies will require you to be "flexible" with the business, which means various shades of gray and sometimes leading to scandals like Enron. What I like best about SH accounting is that management WANTS to you book the correct things. And we're continuously encouraged to voice opinions if we think someething is wrong. The team is lean, you work a lot, but the trade off is, the politicking is minimal.

Cons

Work can be unevenly distributed. This place is full of workhorses, including management, so if you're overwhelmed, it's important you're vocal about it. If you say something, they'll do something about it. But if you stay quiet, no one's going to come to your rescue.
