At the franchise level, very rewarding, hands-on work in education dealing with families and students.

Pros

Our center was composed of like-minded teachers and directors. The executive director had unique and excellent leadership skills. Very little conflict in this office, just results for families.

Cons

Compensation could be low especially in geographic areas where the economy is taking a hit.

Pros

On the tutoring side, Sylvan is excellent and they provide up to date technology for the students. As a teacher, If you're looking for a part-time tutoring position, this will probably be great for you as far as the hours. Co-workers are terrific! Teamwork is the norm here.

Cons

For the office personnel, you work long, hard hours, with no designated breaks or lunch...you take it when/if you can get it.

So rewarding to see children grow in confidence...just seeing their faces light up when their report cards reflect their improvement...nothing like it!

Cons

Expensive...Selling tuition at $55/ hr. Franchisees can't always be successful long term...advertising local vs national cost outlays...who benefits? No transportation to and from sessions after school. Most often no daytime programs offered to support children who are homeschooled. No food or beverages even if child attends longer than 2 hours. Many families can't qualify for financing.
