A small teaching family

Pros

As a tutor, I have the chance to continuously work with students across many different subject areas, and I have the freedom to take a different approach if the lesson doesn't "click" with the student. I also have a very supportive environment and feel comfortable around my boss and peers. I am never afraid to ask for help, nor are my students.

Cons

The pay is low, considering that one usually needs a teaching certification to work there. I'm sometimes forced to rush through lessons when the student doesn't understand because two others may have finished independent work and need more assignments. The assignments often feel manufactured.

Pros

For young professionals who are looking to get experience in different facets of education, para-education, administration/ management, client-facing services, technology implementation, etc. this is definitely a company that will put all those responsibilities on your plate and force you to either sink or pull yourself up and get the job done.

Cons

No room for advancement in your position. Top-down management (corporate and regional) do not support center level management staff's positive work/personal life balance, health & wellness, professional ambitions, etc. No emphasis on creating a healthy work culture offset by demands of meeting unrealistic metrics. Directors often work up to 60 hour weeks with no paid overtime and no support staff. There is high turn over in the South Florida area and has been since about 2010-2011.
