Pros

As of the summer, 2012, the ownership of the center changed. The new owner is a breath of fresh air! From the moment I walk through the door, I can feel the difference in this center. The center is clean and bright, the staff is happy, the students are learning and the parents are thrilled with the progress. Additionally, they are using iPads for instruction! The new owner is motivating and truly cares about the success of the students and families in his center. His door is always open, he is respectful of everyone and works very hard to keep everyone in the loop.

Cons

The hours for full-time staff can be long, but the days fly by quickly.

Pros

I think the biggest pro to working with sylvan was building the relationships with the students. I am a certified teacher and before I got hired with a school district this was a great start and great resume builder.

Cons

I truly did not like their system for teaching kids, specifically 3 at a time. I think once you work there for 6 months you start to get the hang of it, but, I worked there 2 months before I got a classroom job and I still was not used to it. Also, the tuition to sylvan is god awful expensive. With that said, they pay horribly (for tutors that is). I think it was right around 10 dollars an hour, and I usually got like, 8-10 hours/week. I was glad to get hired as a teacher and start making 37K/year vs. the 6K/year I would have made there :)
