Challenging and and frustratingly busy at times and only occasionally rewarding.
Pros
There is the opportunity to help some students improve their math and reading skills. Some of the supervisors are quite helpful with uncooperative students. Many of the elementary level reading programs are clearly laid out and effective. It can be a lot of fun inspiring students to succeed during less hectic hours.
Cons
There is a distressing lack of preparation time for each of the instruction hours. We are only given 15 minutes to prepare for our first teaching hour and absolutely NO time to prepare for any subsequent hours. This makes the end of each hour quite hectic since the teacher is expected to finish scoring and recording final assignments, write legible detailed comments for 3 students, tally up tokens, and lead games for students and wrap up their programs all in a matter of ten minutes and then be ready to go with 3 new students only seconds later when the clock strikes the next hour. I feel this only results in teachers feeling rushed, stressed out, and under prepared during much of the instruction time.
