      Get to work with students who really need your help In my center we receive great feedback and praise from our DE (Director of Education) I love both the employees and students I work with--always entertaining

      Owner openly doesn't respect teachers Never receive a raise, no matter what you are trained in or can do for the center

      Pros

      Working for Sylvan Learning Centers is generally satifying. Adequate training for teachers is provided prior to working with students. In addition to management training, teachers observe experienced Sylvan instructors and work slowly into management the max of 3 students per hour. In my experience management is flexible to accomodate personal business when necessary.

      Cons

      The hourly compensation for new teachers is fairly low for licensed education professional. To my knowledge, only currently certified teachers are employed by Sylvan Learning Centers. Many of these employees have many years of experience and/or graduate degrees. This position is great to earn extra income, but it is not a position that could serve as primary employment.
