R&D upper management are ruthless, heartless at trying to minimize R&D costs. Instead of valuing knowledge transfer (either from new hires or between functions), all they are concerned about is their 'bottom-line' profitability for the shareholders, and when hard times hit (i.e., low sales, low profitability), they cut R&D spend by eliminating jobs, hence instead of knowledge transfer, they engage in "knowledge extraction", where they take your contributions for a while, and then when it's convenient for them, they kick you out into the street. Don't expect to have a job for more than about 5-7 years there (unless you are a foreign national).

Misalignment between strategy and operations, everybody wants to talk about strategy but very few can make it happen. Probably the worst overall information system setup I have ever seen in a large company; all systems are outsourced to different companies and there is no cohesion of information flow.
