Fast growth with major start-up problems

Pros

The people are fantastic - lots of friendly, hard working, talented employees. The CEO has a strong vision for where he wants the company to go. There's free breakfast and lunches there and lots of fun parties and free swag.

Cons

Upper management constantly talks about how much money the company is making but most employees never see any of that money. They wouldn't even match our 401Ks! Unless you're a "favorite" employee, you'll never be promoted and they don't seem to care about anybody's personal career growth. There are a ton of people working long hours who are never acknowledged or rewarded while the "favorites" can do whatever they want like work from home or go on sabbatical. The executives seem very out of touch about what is going on in certain departments and why employees might want to leave. They're in complete denial. If they just took the time to really talk to people, they'd realize what they needed to fix instead of just putting out fires. In many ways, they're still functioning like a small start-up but now that they've grown considerably in such a short period of time, they should train managers better and make a lot of key changes or they'll continue to lose great employees that could have made substantial contributions to the company's continued success.

Pros

A lot of snacks in the office. Interesting problems to solve, good engineering

Cons

Micromanaging is rampant. No respect for employees lower in the totem pole. Your degree has no value here. Only good for people who are higher level managers. Play the politics to move up and take your turn at having power. No diversity. Not worth the pay to work like a dog.

We're sorry you didn't enjoy your time as a Taboolar, although it's good to hear your experience wasn't all negative. As far as how Taboolars are treated and the office politics, this has not been the experience of most Taboolars. We take our company culture very seriously, and are known for our opportunities for advancement, great benefits and perks, and a low-ego company mindset. We wish you well in your career.

Pros

Opportunity to work with smart, motivated people. Depending on the department, you're given the chance to work with great clients.

Cons

Terrible management from the top down. They're incredibly clique-y and do not take much of an interest in the people int their departments. Middle managers are typically promoted due to sales ability, but most lack even the most basic interpersonal or people managing skills. Pay is well below industry average, and promotion tracks are convoluted and ill-defined (likely to avoid having to pay fairly). The work life balance is abysmal, with very little time flexibility or opportunity to work from home. There is a toxic environment that everyone is aware of, but management refuses to acknowledge or address. Lots of lip service, little to no action.
