Pros

Great people, good pay, nice atmosphere

Cons

Very overwhelming to start. Training is hit or miss. Aggressive customer contact is uncomfortable for me. I don't want to give my name and life history when I enter a store. POS system could be a lot faster and easier to ring up sales.

Pros

The manager was very nice and the training was great

Cons

They brought in some other managers from other locations and one of them was very mean to me. She basically told me that I was too quiet, but she didn't know that at that time I was doing tasks my "real" manager told me to do. The true manager at the skokie location is really great though.

Pros

Talbots values an ability to foster client relationships. Their approach to supporting employees seems holistic: training, role playing, and clear goals. The cake is iced by the managers' ability to provide realtime feedback and coaching. From the HR side, 1) the company mission and associated values are known by all employees and 2) compensation is realistic for retail sales. Every sales person can focus on the client as we work as a team rather than individually earned commission. Other great aspects are the experience level of management and the years of service of employees--- the minimal attrition enables building of competence and good teamwork.

Cons

Only downside is morning opening as not much for morning traffic. Pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

Pros

Flexible scheduling, Discount is great, however only need so many clothes. Even with the discount, pay is so low it’s difficult to afford

Cons

The middle managers are promoted from sales associates- NO MANAGEMENT TRAINING, basically they’re following a playbook from corporate- Corporate has very little practical knowledge of the actual issues at retail stores level. Two of the four managers in my store have absolutely no managerial or supervisory experience whatsoever, former sales associates. Pressure, pressure, pressure to meet sales, appointment & credit card goals. Can be very political.

Pros

Clients are mostly nice, so are coworkers. Work life balance is decent.

Cons

My direct supervisor gaslights me daily, as if I’m dumb. Also, she makes my job ten times harder because she doesn’t know how to do anything correctly. Literally have to clean up all of her messes. Currently looking for a new job. So tired of her nonsense, being belittled and demeaned. Ps. I’m the only one working like a dog to make this place run properly. It’s like a circus in the store with 0 reprimanding and 0 training. I pity whoever takes my spot when I put in my notice!

Pros

Flexible hours, discounts on clothing in Talbots and sister stores.

Cons

Very poor pay. Hypocritical leadership… do not follow their own procedures and rules. Company promotes charitable giving to women’s organizations instead of emphasis on their own staff. NO ADVANCEMENT. Zero training
