Pros

Management does care about hard working staff. In general, the atmosphere is one of caring-for the patients anyway. The cafeteria is pretty nice It's nice to have a Starbucks onsite

Cons

No breaks Old, broken beds and equipment Having to take a SHUTTLE from a pretty far away lot to the hospital is very frustrating. They have no system for timing and you must arrive at least 25 mins before your scheduled work time to be on time. The shuttle drivers can be rude and disrespectful if you voice your opinion when that waiver from the APPOINTED 3 stop route because ONE employee wants to be dropped off first!

Pros

1. Opportunities to switch specialties 2. Opportunities to do research 3. Clinical ladder 4. Good benefits 5. Working with smart, diligent people 6. Opportunities for OT, if you want it. No mandatory OT.

Cons

1. Salary is low 2. Employee turnover is high 3. The environmental services department can't keep up with all the cleaning that has to be done, hence, much of the hospital looks dirty. 4. Chronically understaffed 5. As a new nurse, you have very little choice about where they put you when you are hired.

Pros

Great medical benefits, good dental benefits. Decent advancement opportunities, free training courses for leadership, project management, etc.

Cons

Rigid, old-school mentality culture: they don't display salary information and when you ask HR for salary information for an internal opening while you are an employee, they say they cannot share that with you and they assure you that you will be compensated fairly based on your experience. The lack of transparency feels a bit disrespectful and like they are shooting themselves in the foot considering the plethora of companies that offer that information up in a job description. Parental leave: They only offer maternity leave, not paternity leave. It is only 12 weeks and it is unpaid. If you have the accrued time off (420 hours required to be covered for 12 weeks of pay. It takes two years to get to 420 hours of accrued time off, and that is if you don't use any), then you can pay yourself while on leave. Subcultures do not match hospital culture. The CEO preaches one thing, but departmental subcultures do not line up. It is difficult to get more than a 3% raise even if you excel at your job. It has to be "justified" and they really only give 4%, rarely over 5% no matter who you are within the organization. Grind and burnout culture.
