Pros

Great benefits, people, atmosphere and caring staff. Team work is a must which is great. Human Resources is very fair and open to discussion.

Cons

Busy, busy, busy. There is a difference between managers and leaders. Some (small amount) need to lead by example and become a leader.

Pros

I worked at TGH for over 5 years. The hospital offers excellent benefits. The ATO/vacation accrual is generous, however, an employee is not always granted a request for time off. The medical benefits were outstanding in the past but are rapidly changing. The hospital is a great place to learn for those who are willing. There are many opportunities for growth and learning, if management likes you.

Cons

Many decisions to promote employees are based on who likes you and not based on knowledge of the job. People get promoted based on who they know or who they are related to in the company. Favoritism is rampant in many of the departments. Many of the positions require long hours without breaks. While breaks are required by law, some employees simply cannot leave their work station/nursing unit. Human Resources is ineffective. As for culture/values, what you see is not what you get.

Pros

Great benefits. Many opportunities to advance. Want to try a new specialty? Want to go into administration? You can relatively easily switch specialties at TGH. Wonderful coworkers to work with. Incompetent people are fired. Not ALL the doctors are heartless. We can fill in our own schedule. Also, it is relatively easy to go to school and work here because management will schedule you around days that you are in school. This is a great place to "see it all" and obtain valuable experience. That is why I am still here after two years. We have an amazing, excellent lift team and security force. Neat technology, like our ICU bedside monitors, vein finders, and CorTrak.

Cons

The pay is insulting. My pay has only increased by $2/hour over the past two years despite the fact my responsibilities (charge nurse, preceptor, unit expert) have increased. Senior management understaffs us and then wonders why there are problems with patient care (can't go into detail here). They don't listen to the people in the trenches, but they make a show of it by doing rounds on the units and talking to us. The work is extremely tough. Tougher than at other hospitals (can't go into detail, once again.) TGH is very cheap when it comes to purchasing every-day equipment like IV lines. They go for cheap material whenever they can even if it is of inferior quality.
