Pros
Target faces a lot of emphasis on leadership development at the team lead and higher level. They are extremely competitive and utilize lots of technology within their entire corporate strategy. Target maintains a strong brand reputation and for team leader and higher positions has very good pay.
Cons
The company values an extremely objective "potential" characteristic of their team members more than they do their actual performance. Recently their Assets Protection and Investigations departments have been shrunk and new strategy focusing less and less on catching people who are stealing was frustrating. ETL annual reviews were determined at a district meet of store team leaders, so if your store manager could not fight for your good review, you got shafted. Over an 8 year career, Target continually cut and removed positions at an alarming rate while also raising their standards. Target also appears to have recently shifted towards a female dominated leadership team. Despite their public stance of diversity, ethnic minorities who spoke with accents or did not fit a body type/style were hard to promote. Over emphasis on interview performance over job performance allowed company countless times to create reasons to not promote candidates who did not look or talk like Target's "brand". Recently created investigations centers utilized to review how Assets Protection were apprehending thieves and not to actually detect or find more thieves. Investigations Centers utilized by lazy leadership to play big brother and provide further reason to discredit and hold back their teams.
