Pros

The business has come a long way in the past 12 months and there is a clear push to transform the company. They’re hiring externally, investing in product development, and revamping their marketing. The tech is very good and has tons of potential, however changing the market perception of Outbrain is no easy task and requires from a lot of work and effort - from all teams. Good culture with most people willing to help and work together. Access to internal and external learning and development programs. Pay is competitive and benefits are decent: pension, health insurance, 3 extra annual leave days over Christmas, fully stocked kitchen for snacks, free lunch in the office once a week, etc. Hybrid work environment (3 days in office, 2 from home) which is standard across most media and ad-tech companies in London. Great work-life balance (people really leave the office at the end of the day). People complaining about pay being frozen in 2023 forgot to mention Outbrain laid off significantly less employees than comparable businesses during the 22-23 tech layoffs.

Cons

Limited structure around career progression (although this is a bigger focus for the company now) which has led to some questionable promotions. Some tenured employees who have climbed the corporate ladder very quickly have inflated job titles that don’t reflect the true scope of their roles. A small number of employees who have been at the company for 5+ years are hesitant to change, which sometimes can create tension. Some of the internal systems and processes can be improved as they’re not efficient.

Firstly - wow - thank you for such a honest and comprehensive review- your feedback is super valuable to us. We entirely take on board your point around career progression - we have been working hard to provide more transparency and tools attached to this in 2023 and have made progress and it is planned to continue in 2024 where we are hopefully rolling it out to departments such as Sales and Business Development. We have also been looking at the span of control across the company and it is a data point considered when making decisions. Once again thanks for your time in sending feedback and your providing advice we will be sure management read the review.
